4-Bulls Butcher Shop & Deli is pleased to announce the Inaugural “End of Summer BBQ Cookoff & Concert” at the park festival will take place September 24th from noon to 6p.m. at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Park, located at 3704 Bienville Blvd in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. This event will recognize and honor the Wounded Warriors in Action Foundation (WWIA).
This festival will feature 20 BBQ cooking teams offering a variety of BBQ beef, pork, and chicken. Five coastal BBQ restaurants, Tay’s, The Shed, Murky Waters, Pleasants, and Fat Bottom BBQ will also be present and competing in the Brisket Competition. Live musical entertainment will begin at noon with local musicians performing throughout the day, courtesy of the City of Pascagoula and County Supervisor Troy Ross. There will be 30 local vendors, a beer garden, and much more! All you can eat BBQ will also be available with the purchase of a wristband at the admission/entry gate. Be sure to spread the word and bring your friends and family out to the festival. It’s going to be a great time in support of some great causes. At the heart of this event are the Wounded Warriors in Action Foundation (WWIA), as we help support their mission to bring Honor, Connection, and Healing to our nation’s Purple Heart Heroes through outdoor sporting events and a shared passion for the great outdoors. All proceeds from this fundraising event will benefit WWIA as well as the following local service organizations: The Lord is My Help, The Dream Program, and the Jackson County Animal Shelter. Additional funds from this event will also be used toward a Christmas fund to help purchase toys and bicycles for children in need. Proudly serving as the Master of Ceremonies will be Ocean Springs Municipal Court Judge Calvin Taylor.
Event organizer and annual WWIA event Host, Roy McKenzie (4-Bulls Butcher Shop & Deli) along with longtime local businessman and events coordinator, Tim Wold, began planning this event months ago and were grateful to find the perfect location to honor our nation’s Veterans and Heroes. The response and support from the local business community has been remarkable, and we are proud and honored to partner with some incredible sponsors to make this event possible. The Wounded Warriors in Action Foundation (WWIA) is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization headquartered in Apollo Beach, FL. Their mission is to serve our nation’s combat-wounded Purple Heart recipients by providing world-class outdoor sporting activities such as hunting and fishing as a means to recognize and honor their sacrifice, encourage independence and connections with communities, and promote healing and wellness through camaraderie and a shared passion for the outdoors. WWIA is in their 13th year of operation and currently serves over 250 Purple Heart Recipients each year on over 50 events across North America. The Lord Is My Help is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit food pantry in Ocean Springs, MS that runs primarily on donations contributed by our caring community & grants. Over 200 meals per day served in the Lord Is My Help cafeteria, and more than 200 delivered to the elderly, ill, & disabled home-bound citizens of our community. The DREAM Program is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that serves and enhances the quality of life for people with disabilities residing across the Mississippi Gulf Coast and surrounding areas. The Dream Program is inclusive and available to ALL individuals, with and without disabilities. Currently, there are 14 recreational program offerings, and all are FREE of charge to the participants. As the program enters its 17th year of operation, the success and valuable impact on our community has been astounding. The Dream Program’s mission is to provide inclusive leisure, social and recreational experiences for individuals of varying abilities to improve their quality of life, increase independence, and give them the opportunity to discover their potential. Jackson County Animal Shelter was established in 1985 and exists to help people find and adopt their forever dog or cat. The shelter has the capacity to accommodate 154 medium sized animals (cats and dogs), and four larger animals, such as goats and horses. The shelter averages almost 250 pet adoptions a month. Unfortunately, for every animal adopted five new animals arrive at the shelter. Roy has been a leader in the meat industry for over 30 years and has earned the prestigious National Beef Stampede Awards in 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2018, and placed 2nd in 2019. He is the first person to win back-to-back awards since the NBS inception in the 1990’s. In 2016, Roy’s dream for a full-service butchery of his own has been, where his love and passion for high quality meat meets exceptional customer satisfaction, began its search for the right location.
